Historical Background
The
California
Alligator
Farm
,
located
at
3627
Mission
Road
adjacent
to
Lincoln
Park
, was
owned
by
Francis
Earnest
and his
partner
Joe
Campbell
.
Visitors
were
given
a
tour
of the
farm
, an
opportunity
to
see
trained
alligators
perform
tricks
, and, if they were
brave
, to
touch
the
alligators
. In
1941
, the
farm
was
advertised
as
owning
1,000
alligators
. The
farm
operated
in
Lincoln
Park
from
1907
to
1953
,
when
the
Alligator
Farm
was
moved
to
Buena
Park
.
After
low
attendance
in the
early
1980s
, the
farm
in
Buena
Park
closed
.
