jewelry

. To the
right
of the
bandstand
is
the
Thompson
Scenic
Railway
roller
coaster
; a
sign
at the
entrance
to the
coaster
reads
: "
Scenic
RY
". An
audience
sits
on
benches
facing
the
bandstand
as a
band
plays
.
Historical Background
Ocean
Front
Walk
was
developed
in the
early
1900s
along
with the
rest
of the
Venice
area
. The
Bandstand
building
and the
Scenic
Railway
were
located
on the
west
side
of
Ocean
Front
Walk
on the
North
side
of the
Venice
Pier
. The
Thompson
Scenic
Railroad
was a
roller
coaster
built
in
1910
by the
L
. A.
Thompson
Company
, and
which
ran
until
1919
. In
1946
the
city
council
decided
to
tear
down
the
Venice
pier
. The
pier
was
slowly
demolished
, and what was not
demolished
in the
area
by
1946
was
destroyed
by a
fire
in
1947
.
