Historical Background |
James N. Loughran, S.J. served as the president of Loyola Marymount University from 1984 to 1991. While at LMU, Father Loughran made a commitment to further LMU's reputation as a strong academic institution. He directed considerable financial resources to academics and lowered the minimum course load for professors from four to three, freeing up faculty for research and other scholarly and creative pursuits. Herb J. Wesson, Jr. is a California politician who served as a member of the 47th State Assembly District from 1998 until 2004, when term limits forced him to step down. In 2002, he was unanimously elected the 65th Speaker of the California State Assembly – one of the three most powerful positions in state government. He was the second African American to be elected Speaker of the California State Assembly. |
