Historical Background	Although the football team had roots in St. Vincent's College since 1898, the Loyola University football team, the Lions, competed as an independent against teams from the Pacific Coast Conference and the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Conference from 1921 to 1951. Fr. Hugh Duce was Loyola University president from 1932 to 1937. Fr. Louis C. Rudolph was Treasurer from 1948 to 1953.
