According to a proposal for La Causa Youth Center, September 19 of 1969 marks the date of the formation of "La Cause Steering Committee" which consisted of David Luna, Loyola student United Mexican-American Students President, Antonio Jimenez, Loyola student and La Causa Student Director; Maria Teresa Martinez, Marymount student and United Mexican-American Students Vice-President; Reverend John W. Clark, S.J., Academic Vice-President, Loyola University; William Fitzgerald, Chairman, Political Science Department, Loyola University; Virginia Barnell, Assistant to the President, Marymount College; Grace Limon, Marymount Faculty Member; and Victor Garcia, Project Director. The objectives of La Causa included the development of language and study skills of Mexican American students between the ages of 13 - 20, cultural enrichment "based on Mexican-American literature and history with the use of relevant books, films, and lectures" as well as the improvement of recruitment and retention effo |
