Historical Background

Pereira
joined
the
Jesuits
in
1917
. He was
assigned
to
Loyola
University
at
1923
, and
later
he
moved
with the
university
from the
Venice
Boulevard
campus
to the
Westchester
campus
. As the
ground
supervisor
,
Brother
Pereira
planted
a
great
number
of
palm
trees
around
the
campus
,
most
of
which
have
since
been
taken
down
or
replaced
as the
campus
grew
.
Brother
Pereira
passed
away
in
1953
.
