Description |
A black-and-white photograph of the 1926 Loyola College Commencement, held at the Ambassador Hotel. The ceremony takes place surrounded by tall, elaborately decorated columns topped with flags and lighted letters spelling out "LOYOLA", and with cloth and other ornaments draped around them. The graduates stand in rows behind the faculty and other religious. |
Historical Background |
From 1917 to 1928, Loyola College was located on Venice Boulevard near downtown Los Angeles. 1926 was one of the last commencements of Loyola College held at the Ambassador Hotel. At the time, the Ambassador, located at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, was the newest, grandest and closest venue to the campus. Two years later the school moved on to become Loyola University of Los Angeles on a new campus in Westchester. |
