Transcription | [letterhead:] Diocese of Monterey and Los Angeles 108 West Second Street Los Angeles, Cal. [typewritten body of letter:] March 11, 1918. Miss Mary J. Workman, 711 Jackson Street, Los Angeles, Calif. Very dear friend: I have just receieved your leter of the 10th., inst. Since the beginning I have been a subscriber to the Catholic Charities Review. It is an admirable magazine and puts the work of our charitable endeavors on the only foundation that endures. If there be ever a time that you are not "awfully busy" we must have a talk about the work (not especially ofthe Brownson House, which seems able to take care of itself but) of two other settlements. I am bringing two Sisters of the Holy Family from San Francisco, not by way of a foundation but simply to look over the field and to give me the benefit of an expert advice. When they come I will want you to give them every assistance in your power. I have no doubt at all about the zeal of the Plaza Priests. I have spoken to the new Father Provincial about the work of the Brownson House and have asked that any surplus we can make on the development of San Gabriel Mission be devoted to our work |
